Insurance

University policy requires all graduate students to maintain health insurance. Currently, several health coverage plans are available to us through Wesleyan University, via Arthur J. Gallagher & Co and CIGNA. These plans are subsidized by the university for graduate students who receive a stipend.

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (usually referred to as Gallagher-Koster) provides a Student Injury and Sickness Insurance plan. Information regarding insurance plans offered by Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. can be obtained at the following website:

  • https://www.gallagherstudent.com/students/ ; choose Wesleyan University from the drop-down menu.
  • Links to useful information are included in the list on the left side of the page. Brochures provided on the ‘My Benefits and Plan Information’ page are a good place to start.
  • The health coverage insurance plan (Student Injury and Sickness Insurance Plan) is a PPO insurance plan available to all graduate students. The FAQ brochure on the ‘My Benefits and Plan Information’ page is particularly useful for questions regarding who and what is covered under this health coverage plan. NOTE: Any student covered under an insurance plan other than that offered by A.J. Gallagher & Co. (including plans offered by CIGNA through the University) must submit an Online Petition to Waive this health insurance at the start of each academic year.

The healthcare plans offered via CIGNA include both Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) and Point of Service (POS) options. Information regarding CIGNA coverage options can be found at: http://www.wesleyan.edu/grad/student-services/health.html

Information regarding the costs of health coverage is available here.

One voluntary dental coverage plan is offered through Wesleyan, see the Health page on the Graduate Student Services website, listed under CIGNA information.

Alternatively, information regarding health insurance and dental coverage outside of that provided and subsidized by Wesleyan can be found at here or at ehealthinsurance.com.

Information about health services at Wesleyan, as well as important health related updates can be found at the Davidson Health Center website.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

CAPS provides comprehensive short-term mental health services through multidisciplinary integration with Davison Health Center and WesWell. Students who utilize their psychotherapy services may discuss in confidence any worries, distressing feelings, or difficult situations they are currently experiencing. Our goal is to assist students as they navigate through life’s challenges within the context of a highly rigorous and demanding academic environment.

Valuable resources for students, faculty and staff, including information on how to schedule an appointment with a counselor, how to get help in an emergency, and useful resources on various mental health topics can be found at the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) website.
